Nerja

The location

Nerja is a small gem of a town on the Costa del Sol in Spain with around 320 sunny days per year! The city is surrounded by high mountains, which gives a tropical microclimate with pleasant summers and mild winters. There are no big tall tourist hotels in the city, but here you are met by narrow cozy alleys and whitewashed houses, but the city can still offer its visitors everything they could wish for in terms of of attractions, pub life, shopping and salty baths.

The city has as many as 10 fine sandy beaches which are often located in sheltered bays surrounded by beautiful limestone cliffs

In the middle of the city is the world-famous viewpoint Balcon de Europa, From here you have a wonderful view of the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding mountains Nerja is also famous for its caves, Cuevas de Nerja, (Europe's largest cave system) The caves are believed to have been formed five million years ago and findings made indicate that they were inhabited as early as 25,000 BC.

In Nerja you can also enjoy the large selection of restaurants and bars - it is said that there are over 300 to choose from, so there is something for all tastes - you can visit one of Nerja's Guide de Michelin restaurants with fine dining or enjoy tapas and a glass of wine at one of the many small taverns.

Don't forget to visit our favorite La jamoneria Alcauza if you like cheese, wine and a charcuterie tray that you dream about :)

If you want an active holiday and are a golfer, there are several nice golf courses nearby. We have played at both Baviera Golf and Añoreta.Golf and can recommend them both. Also want to mention that in Nerja there are several nice paddle courses that can be recommended.

Or why not go to the Sierra Nevada mountains for slalom/skiing - which is about 1.5 hours away by car. At the second highest peak (3400 m) is Europe's southernmost ski resort. Here there are nice slopes and plenty of snow, so on the same day you can ski slalom in the morning and sunbathe and swim in the Mediterranean in the afternoon! The season normally extends between November and April.
